Kennedy Drops Bid for Clinton’s Senate Seat, Citing Personal Reasons

Published: January 21, 2009

Caroline Kennedy was the first contender in line for the vacant Senate seat in New York in place of Hilary Clinton. She announced on Thursday that she was withdrawing from consideration for personal reasons. She called governor David Patterson Wednesday and informed him about her decision. A person that talked to her says her decision is based on her concern for her uncle, Senator Edward Kennedy who is suffering from brain cancer. Her decision caught the governor off guard. Governor Patterson was going to announce his decision Friday or Saturday but it might take longer than that now. As of right now, Mr. Cuomo is now the first contender in line.

I think that the New York Times did a good job with explaining this article in depth. A lot of people have been talking about this issue and want to be informed about it. It gave the straight facts about Caroline Kennedy's decision and did a good job at explaining what exactly happened.
